In Rainwater Harvesting

Here’s a video interview about a rainwater collection system that Innovative Water Solutions installed for a client of Risinger Homes.  Matt Risinger has a terrific blog about home building and building science.  He asked me to provide some details about the rainwater collection system.

This rainwater collection system consists of two 3,000 gallon fiberglass cisterns. The rainwater is used for irrigation use only. The system collects rainwater from roughly 4,000 square feet of roof through a “wet” collection piping system. Therefore, the system will harvest about 2,500 gallons of rainwater per inch of rainfall. In central Texas, this will net about 75,000 gallons of rainwater on an annual basis.

There are many different configurations for these rainwater harvesting systems which encompasses collection efficiency, cistern aesthetics, and budget. You can learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of rainwater system at our website.
