Manufacturers, why is this even possible? Seems like something can be designed into the water meter to prevent this like a check valve of sorts?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2012\/06\/15\/new-study-smart-roofs-could-transform-california-energy-water-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">New NRDC study<\/a> found that by installing green roofs and cool roofs in southern California alone could be the same as removing 91,000 cars from road per year.<\/li>\n<li>Study by Dr. Peter Coombes found that removing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westender.com.au\/news\/1365\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">requirement of installing rainwater harvesting tanks<\/a> in new Australian homes will increase the water cost by $23\/month per home.<\/li>\n<li>The <a title=\"A comprehensive water policy is needed\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ei.columbia.edu\/2012\/08\/16\/preparing-for-a-future-of-perpetual-drought\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">US needs a national water policy<\/a> that incorporates forecasts, trading mechanisms, options, &amp; wise management.<\/li>\n<li>The US drought could spur civil unrest and riots around the world. <a title=\"Who knew Mother Nature didn't like Dictatorships\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn22191-us-drought-could-spur-civil-unrest-around-the-world.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Droughts toppling dictators!<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Recognizing that <a title=\"Nature has more to offer if we can only put a dollar sign on it\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/environment\/2012\/aug\/10\/nature-economic-value-campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">natural systems are vital to our economies<\/a> and have financial values, it is possible to put it into the economic analysis.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Back to Stage 2 Water Restrictions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/news\/austin-water-activates-stage-2-water-restrictions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Austin, Texas, declares Stage 2 water restrictions<\/a> on September 4th.\u00a0 Now we are back to watering only one day a week.<\/li>\n<li>While we are at it, <a title=\"Marble Falls is restricting watering\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kxan.com\/dpp\/news\/local\/hill_country\/marble-falls-orders-stage-2-watering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Marble Falls, Texas, also declares Stage 2 water restrictions<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Edwards Aquifer Authority as declared <a title=\"TSU using too much water?\" href=\"http:\/\/star.txstate.edu\/node\/5856\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Stage III pumping restrictions for Texas State University<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>A super-duper <a title=\"Austin is still in a drought\" href=\"http:\/\/chrissearles.blogspot.com\/2012\/09\/another-higher-than-average-temperature.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">drought update post for Austin<\/a>, but our good friend, Chris Searles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Video of the week<\/h3>\n<p>Here is a recorded webinar entitled &#8220;Rainwater Harvesting for Wildlife&#8221; which was hosted by the Texas Parks &amp; Wildlife and presented by Billy Kniffen of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
