Rainwater Harvesting on This Old House

Innovative Water Solutions had a tremendous opportunity of working on the Austin House for This Old House. We installed a 1,200 gallon rainwater harvesting system. The system collects rainwater from all of the downspouts around the house using a “wet” system. The rainwater collects into a galvanized metal cistern that has an epoxy liner. From there, a pump system pressurizes the rainwater in order to feed the irrigation system. When there is not enough rainwater to supply the landscape during the summer months in Austin, an auto-fill system keeps a minimum amount of municipal water in the cistern so that the pump system operates without any issues.
